These programmes are designed for applicants who hold a minimum Level 3. Please submit a copy of your highest level of qualification at application.

IPLDP+ Detective
The detective route is suitable for applicants who wish to commence their career as a Detective Constable.
You will be a Student Officer from day one, earning whilst you learn, and will spend two and a half years following a work-based training programme that integrates your training and the achievement of Occupational Competence. You’ll cover all Police Constable learning, plus the training required to qualify as a Detective Constable. This will be fully supported by off-the-job learning delivered by our in-house training team. You will be fully supported, and the assessment of your learning is based on your role as a Uniformed Police Constable and Detective Constable.
- You will achieve a recognised formal qualification through Skills for Justice, this is a Level 3 Diploma.
- You will receive excellent operational training required to become a Detective Constable, and you will attend our training centre on Courtland Road, Hull for your Initial training period.
- You will receive individual support from one of our experienced Force Tutor Officers who support you in putting what you learn in the classroom into practice on the job as a Detective Constable.
- You will have access to a dedicated assessment team to support you in achieving your Diploma in Policing.
You will undergo initial police training to prepare you for your operational role. Educational modules will be integrated into the initial programme and post tutor phase.
The first 12 months will be spent developing your core skills in a uniform Police Constable on patrol. You will then spend the remaining 18 months in an Investigation Unit whilst studying for the National Investigators’ Exam, completing your Diploma studies along with your detective portfolio.
IPLDP+ Uniform
IPLDP+ Uniform is a two-year learning programme whereby you will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Policing; alongside all the operational learning you will need to be effective in your role as a student officer.
- You will achieve a recognised formal qualification through Skills for Justice, this is a Level 3 Diploma.
- You will receive excellent operational training required to become a Police Constable, and you will attend our training centre on Courtland Road, Hull for your Initial training period.
- You will receive individual support from one of our experienced Force Tutor Officers who support you in putting what you learn in the classroom into practice on the streets of Humberside when you join your Patrol team.
- You will have access to a dedicated assessment team to support you in achieving your Diploma in Policing.
- You will spend more time in our communities than within the classroom.
Application Criteria – Uniform and Detective
- Be of 17 years of age or over to apply and 18 years of age by time of appointment. There is no upper age limit for applying to join Humberside Police.
- Ideally you should hold a full, valid manual EU/UK driving licence. If you do not currently hold a full manual UK/EU driving licence, you must be hold one by the end of year 1 from the date of your appointment. Please ensure you upload an image of the front of the driving licence (if applicable) at time of application.
- Have a history of regular attendance during education or in employment
- Maintain a good level of fitness.
- BMI of 30 or below at point of application. If your BMI is above this at the point of your medical appointment, it will result in the withdrawal of your application. The following link may assist in calculating your BMI. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/
- Comply with our tattoo policy. Please ensure that you upload 2 images of all tattoos. One close image and at a distance to show where it is located.
- Meet vetting requirements – this means having no criminal convictions (some
minor offences may be considered on an individual basis).
- Applicants must have resided in the UK for three continuous years immediately prior to application. Any period of travel needs to be less than one year.
- You must hold Right to Work in the UK to apply. Please submit this alongside your application.
- Hold a Level 3 Qualification - Proof of qualification. Alternatively, applicants can be working towards their final year of their Level 3 qualification and predicted grades from their education provider will be accepted. The qualification must be completed by July 2023 to apply . An image of all relevant qualifications must be uploaded at the time of application. (We can only accept a transcript from your education provider for predicted grades).

A minimum requirement to be eligible to apply for the IPLDP routes are any level 3 qualification. It may be possible for certain qualifications to be grouped together if your highest level of qualification does not meet the level 3 requirement on its own.

Employee benefits
- Salary - starting on £23,556. At 22 weeks following initial training, increasing to £26, 682. Reaching a salary of £43,032 after 7 years.
- Shift pattern - As a patrol officer you will work four 12 hour shifts with four shifts off, providing you with a good work/life balance. Once you move into the Investigation Unit you will receive a new shift pattern which will include day shifts and late shifts. You should note that all shift patterns are subject to change. Please also note you can be posted anywhere in the Humberside force area.
- Unsociable hours - you will be paid an additional 10% per hourly rate for every hour you work between 8pm and 6am
- Pension scheme - we offer a contributory pension scheme which is based on a percentage of your pensionable pay. (12.44 % at appointment)
- Annual leave allowance - 22 days annual leave, increasing to 25 after 2 years at PC rank
- Bridge pass - provided if your usual place of duty is on the opposite side of the bridge to your home for use for journeys to and from work.

We are hosting an Online Eligibility Workshop on 26th January at 7pm. We will talk through the recruitment journey whilst also speaking to current serving Detective Constables.
Shortlisting will take 3-4 weeks. Please allow this time to lapse before contacting the recruitment team for updates on your application.
Applicants successful in being shortlisted will subsequently be invited to attend a national online sift with College of Policing in mid-February 2023.
Applicants successful at the national sift will be invited to attend an in force professional discussion around why they wish to join Humberside Police. The question will be ‘What would being a Police Officer at Humberside Police mean to you and why do you want to be one?’ This will take place mid-March 2023.
Candidates will finally complete a National Assessment Centre (held online) with College of Policing at the end of April 2023 before moving onto pre-employment checks.
